About Rock 'N Rose |
|||
It began with a bead — Rock 'N Rose was founded on the premise of the rose bead almost ten years ago. The rose bead itself, however, has been used since the ancient Greeks began using it for prayers. The rose bead consists of dried rose petals that have been pulverized, cooked, and dried into beads. The finished product retains the natural rose essence, smelling like a rose and perhaps acting as relief for the ancients who did not have access to deodorant! The Christians later adopted the practice of using rose beads as prayer beads from the Hindus and Buddhists. The rose itself became a symbol of joy for the Christians, and Mary was often referred to as the Mystical Rose. It is from the rose bead that the rosary gets its name. Brides have enjoyed taking the petals from their bridal bouquets (all flower petals may be used, though roses work best) to create commemorative bridal jewelry — using (in addition to the rose beads) different beads and stones that are significant to their wedding day. On the same token, funerary roses have been gathered to create jewelry that commemorates the life of a loved one who has passed. No particular event, however, needs to take place to create a rosebead necklace, earrings, or bracelet — many people simply enjoy the scent and look of these unique pieces. Rock 'N Rose had its fortuitous beginnings under the tutelage of Kristina Douglas founder and design artist for Recycled Rose. Ms. Douglas' expertise is the exquisite clay beads she makes and the specialty rosaries she lovingly puts together. Many of her designs also include wireart creations. All of her works emphasize the scent of the rose. Rock 'N Rose grew as an East Coast subsidiary to Recycled Rose but became a consultant/designer finding a stone(s) to uniquely fit the personality of the wearer. Rosary bracelets and Salvation bracelets are a part of our portfolio as well. "Taking the time to smell the roses" is easily done when wearing a piece of jewelry from Rock 'N Rose. |
